Bournemouth's 'No Cold Calling Zones' launched 19 October 2009

Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water is working with Dorset Police and Trading Standards to help protect customers from ‘bogus callers’ who make false claims to gain entry to a property.

Across the country more than 12,000 people a year are visited by a bogus caller. Many of these say they are from 'the water board' which no longer exists.

The No Cold Calling Zones launched 19th October in Bournemouth are designed to encourage residents to check the identity of a caller, even if they claim to be from a reputable company.

Signs are on display in these areas alerting unwanted callers. Residents have received an information pack, including a sticker to place on their door or window advising they do not welcome cold callers.

You don’t have to be in a Zone to keep yourself safe from bogus callers. Always make sure a caller is genuine. All Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water staff carry a photo ID card, and you can check who they are by calling 01202 590059. Customers can also have a password which staff can quote to you if you wish.
