Caring For Our Community

Every year Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water helps dozens of mainly local charities and organisations.

It could be a modest financial donation or, perhaps, the sponsoring of a customer or staff member who is taking part in a fundraising activity.

Support can take various other forms. It might be prizes for a raffle, tombola or auction; providing water for fundraising runs or events; the provision of a drinking water fountain, lining for a wildlife pond (and/or the water to fill it!) or assisting with the production of fundraising event souvenir programme through our ‘Get Set’ graphic design division.

Then again it could be collecting stamps, supermarket vouchers, recycling old mobile phones and toner cartridges, passing on unwanted furniture and equipment. In short, if we can help, then we will.

The charities we have helped are local, national and international ranging from Julia’s House and Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired through to Macmillan Cancer Support and Guide Dogs for the Blind plus, of course, WaterAid.

We are also proud to be corporate members of both the Dorset and the Hampshire Wildlife Trusts.  Similarly we have long standing partnerships with Streetwise; Minstead Study Centre (see photo above); Life Education Dorset and Cherry Tree Nursery.

We also support the Bournemouth and Ringwood Carnivals as well as the local mayors’ charitable funds each year and local ‘In Bloom’ organisations.

Among our 2007 highlights was an ‘It’s A Knockout’ contest where our staff raised a total of £2,832 for 11 charities.  The main beneficiary being the Neo-Natal Ward at Poole Hospital where an intensive care bed for premature, sick and new-born babies was funded.

Like any company we don’t have limitless funds but we will do our best to help worthy causes.  We have been serving the local population since 1863 and are proud to be part of the community we serve. This is our way of putting something back.
